ADS of London Meetings 2009-2010

Wednesday  21st October 2009 

Lecturer:                 Dr. Graham Bailey                
Title:                        “The case against the evidence”

Qualified from the Royal London Hospital in 1987 and spent three years working as an oral surgeon before taking up an appointment in Singapore. Returning to london he completed his MSc in Endodontology at the Eastman Dental Hospital in london in 1993. He became a partner in Plowman and Partners in 1994. He rejoined the Eastman faculty part-time later in 1994 and has taught on the postgraduate programme ever since.

He has lectured all over the world and has published a number of articles in the scientific press. He has been a member of the British Endodontic Society Council and was a founder member of the Langham Endodontic Study Group, a European specialist endodontic society.

Lecturer:               Professor Francis Hughes                
Title:                      “Why Research ? Does it really change Clinical Practice ?”       

Francis Hughes is Professor of Periodontology at King College London. He graduated in Dentistry from Guys Hospital Dental School, London,in 1979. After 2 1/2 years as a GDP, he came to work at the London Hospital as Senior House Officer in Oral Medicine and Pathology.  He was appointed Lecturer in Periodontology to the London Hospital Medical College in 1983, where he then completed his PhD in Periodontology and his clinical specialist training.  After a period of full time research with Professor Tony Melcher at the University of Toronto in 1988 – 89, he returned to The London as Senior Lecturer, and was appointed to his Chair in 1999.

Francis is an enthusiastic and committed teacher. He is well known internationally for his research work on the cell biology of the periodontal tissues, and particularly in understanding the mechanisms controlling bone formation during wound healing and tissue regeneration. He has further research interests in the aetiological and prognostic factors for Periodontitis.

He is currently President of the Pan European Region of International Association for Dental Research (IADR). In addition he is Group Program Chair of the Periodontal Pathogenesis group of IADR. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Dental Research and Journal of Periodontal Research. He is also President-Elect of the BSP.


Wednesday 9th December 2009

Lecturer:                 Markus B. Hürzeler                
Title:                       “Periodontal Prosthodontics in the 21st Century”      

received his dental degree from the University of Zurich, his certificate as a specialist in Periodontics from the Swiss Society of Periodontology, the Docent (Associate Professor) degree from the Department of Prosthodontics at Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, and his certificate in Prosthodontics from the German Society of Prosthodontics.

He is Clinical Associate Professor at the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, Department of the Operative Dentistry and Periodontology and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas. Dr. Hürzeler has produced more than 100 scientific publications within the field of implants, periodontology and tissue regeneration and is a regular national and international lecturer.

He maintains a private practice focused on periodontics and implant dentistry in Munich, Germany.

Lecturer:                Dr. Patrick Palacci                 
Title:                       “Complex Implantology”      

Dr Patrick Palacci obtained his DDS degree at Marseille University, Marseilles, France, in 1975. He continued his post-graduate education in periodontology at Boston University from 1977 to 1981. He was appointed as a visiting professor in 1982 at Boston University. Dr Palacci is a private practitioner in Marseilles and is at the head of Brånemark Osseointegration Center in Marseilles, working in very tight relationship with Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark. He developed several techniques in relation with optimal implant positioning, papilla regeneration technique and esthetic implant dentistry. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and two textbooks published by Quintessence in 1995 and 2001 'Esthetic & Implant Dentistry', as well as another book 'Immediate Esthetics' (2008).

Dr Palacci got the first NobelPharma Award in 1995. Dr Palacci presently conducts a number of courses in his private clinic and is currently invited as a speaker to scientific meetings all around the world.

Lecturer:                 Dr Eric D. Serfaty
Title:                       “Treatment plan to optimize Aesthetic results” (Joint meeting with the American Dental Club of Paris in London)
 

Dr Serfaty graduated from Paris V dental school (France) and then went on to gain his specialty in Orthodontics from TUFTS Dental School (Boston, USA), with a Master of Sciences from TUFTS Orthodontic department (Boston, USA) and currently works at his private orthodontic practice in Paris France. Dr Serfaty is an active member of the following dental societies : AOA,  ALOA, Alpha Omega, ABO, Paris Dental Society member, Tufts Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Club of Paris.

He has lectured on: “aesthetic”, “treatment planning”,”Adult and Lingual Orthodontics” etc…For various dental societies and dental schools and also holds a part time position as Clinical associate Paris “Rothschild Hospital”, plastic surgery department, “multidisciplinary consultation” and Visiting lecturer Tufts Orthodontics Department (Boston, USA)

Dr Serfaty is a Board member (President elect) of the “American Dental Club of Paris” and a Diplomate of the “American Board of Orthodontics”
